Upcycled corduroy pants

Corduroy is a tough, durable fabric usually made of cotton. It is a preferred winter fabric and has a velvety touch.

It arguably feels warmer than denims although this may not be true in terms of the fabric property. The fact that the corduroy fabric is softer makes it feel more cozy on a cold, winter day.

To me, corduroy pants are winter wear and here’s how I managed to upcycle one for the season.

Why did I Upcycle this Corduroy Pant?

My husband had a bunch of clothes he had outgrown and this was one of them.

He was planning to get rid of it but seeing how soft and sturdy the fabric was, I couldn’t resist finding a way to repurpose it.

So after trying it on and spending a good amount of time in front of the mirror, I decided to taper this for myself.

The waist was a comfortable fit. I was sure this would be a nice, relaxed pair of trousers once I made some amends.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the only thing I needed to do was taper the bottom – knee down (owing to the extra pounds around my waist now!).

For anyone with a sewing machine, this would be child’s play.

All you’ll need is to stand in front of the mirror and mark the places you want to tuck in.

I carefully measured and marked both legs evenly. I measured the point at which I has to start tapering till the leg openings and drew a line.

Then I handstiched the line I drew from the knee down using a simple home sewing kit over a few cups of tea. Honestly, I did thoroughly miss my sewing machine which would have done the job in 5 minutes.

It took me a couple of hours worth of time to finish but I am elated with the finished product!

It has a relaxed fit which is perfect to wear inside the house or for a casual trip outdoors.

Corduroy on a cold winter morning and a cup of coffee is bliss!
